Lexington Montessori School is seeking an experienced Montessori teacher to work with students in one of our Lower Elementary program Classrooms, beginning in October 2026. This is a parental leave sub position (40 hours per week for 26 weeks). The parental leave sub teacher collaborates with the classroom Head Teacher, and they are responsible for delivering the Montessori curriculum, classroom management and other teacher responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and provide a creative, adaptive environment which is both stimulating and aesthetically appealing.
  • Participate in the collective design and maintenance of teaching environments and those shared with other staff (hallways, staff rooms, etc.).
  • Implement a curriculum which is consistent with the school’s mission and diversity tenets, as well as with all-school curriculum objectives.
  • Share and coordinate classroom curriculum with other specialists with the goal of providing children with a sequenced and integrated educational experience.
  • Communicate observations and knowledge of children to others working with that child: classroom teachers, BASP staff, etc.
  • Intervene proactively and reactively to maintain a disciplined, respectful community.
  • Communicate professionally, directly, and respectfully with colleagues.
  • Participate in, support and nurture the LMS community spirit.
  • Keep subjective and objective records of students’ progress.
  • Write reports on student progress for parents.
  • Confer with parents in regular conference periods and as needed.
  • Communicate commitment to anti-bias education in communication with parents and children.
  • Contribute to school publications and keep online information current.
