Environmental Engineer, Occupational Health & Safety
We are seeking a dedicated Construction & Facilities EH&S Lead to join our team. This role is primarily based in Lexington and Waltham and involves close collaboration with both the facilities operations team and the project team managing a significant expansion project. The ideal candidate will have a passion for safety and sustainability, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
PurposeThe Construction & Facilities EH&S Lead will be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs for facilities and construction safety. This includes contractor and construction safety, permit to work programs, Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), confined space entry, hazard communication, laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, hearing conservation, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement technical safety initiatives that support operations efficiently and on schedule.
- Oversee the design and execution of safety programs ensuring safe, compliant, and effective operations.
- Act as the tactical liaison between EH&S and site expansion or construction projects, collaborating with project sponsors and support teams.
- Serve as the EH&S representative supporting the site’s functional business units.
- Continuously enhance the risk assessment process to proactively identify and mitigate enterprise-level risks.
- Lead and participate in investigations, addressing compliance concerns and resolving regulatory questions.
- Support the development and implementation of the site’s EHS Management System.
- Partner with the EH&S team on initiatives and align site practices with enterprise standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support EH&S and site objectives.
- Strong understanding of EH&S principles, including relevant laws and regulations. (20%)
- Proven ability to design, develop, and implement EHS Management Systems. (15%)
- Ability to assess processes and equipment for risks and develop solutions to reduce hazards and environmental impact. (15%)
- Experience in research laboratories, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical environments. (10%)
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects. (10%)
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in diverse environments. (10%)
- Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records. (5%)
- Readiness to respond to emergencies and lead effectively in critical situations. (5%)
- Ability to identify hazards, drive continuous improvement, and implement practical risk control measures. (5%)
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels. (5%)
- High energy, adaptability, resilience, and a passion for excellence. (5%)
- 7 years of experience in a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher is required.
- EHS certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are strongly desired but not required.
