The Electronics for Contested Space Group develops advanced electronic systems and technology for the protection of our Nation’s most important space capabilities. We design and develop state-of-the-art satellites and satellite payloads, novel concepts for resilient space architectures, and the Nation’s most sensitive radars, optics, and passive RF systems. The group also provides engineering rigor and experience to some of the most critical National Security programs through Laboratory-wide collaboration and acts in an advisory capacity to the U.S. Government.

Recently we have prototyped electronic systems and effects, conducted hardware-in-the-loop testing of tactically relevant payloads with surrogate threat systems, developed RF subsystems for satellites, and analyzed spacecraft mission dynamics, environments, and resiliency.

Group 94, Electronics for Contested Space, is seeking a Technician (Level

A) to support the prototyping and development of advanced electronic hardware for space payloads and subsystems. Activities will include the fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of RF and electronic hardware from schematics and mechanical drawings. Job functions may also include operation of technical equipment including laboratory and field data collection under the supervision of scientific personnel. Responsibilities will include assembly of multi-conductor and RF cables, building small electronic assemblies, mechanical/electrical assembly including wiring of devices into chassis assemblies, and soldering and de-soldering of boards and terminals.

Responsibilities include:

• Fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of RF and electronic hardware from schematics and mechanical drawings
• Mechanical and electrical assembly of printed circuit boards and assemblies
• Assisting higher-level technicians in assembling chassis, cables, and PCB assemblies
• Building wire harnessing of all configurations, including multi-conductor and RF cables
• Soldering and de-soldering of through-hole and SMT components, boards, and terminals
• Cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and terminating wire and connectors with precision
• Operating technical equipment, including laboratory and field data collection, under scientific supervision

Requirements

• Active Top Secret clearance highly desirable
• Graduation from a two-year technical school or equivalent, or a minimum of two years of applicable experience
• Foundational electrical knowledge, including schematic interpretation, electronic component identification, and basic troubleshooting desired
• Prior experience with soldering (through-hole and SMT), wire harnessing, or PCB assembly strongly preferred
• Comfortable working in a prototype development environment, characterized by low-volume fabrication and highly variable, non-repetitive tasks
• Familiarity with common test and measurement equipment, such as digital multimeters (DMMs), oscilloscopes, power supplies, and electronic loads preferred
• Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to learn quickly when faced with new or unfamiliar technical tasks
• Self-motivated, with a demonstrated desire to continuously learn and take on new technical challenges
• Well organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously
• Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with others and build productive working relationships
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to work effectively and independently for extended periods without direct supervision
• Ability to lift light-to-moderate equipment, up to 60 pounds
