What you'll do on a typical day

Part-time Instructor positions are available to teach High School Equivalency courses offered at the Davidson Men's Correctional Facility. Instructors are needed to teach courses in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies to help justice involved men to prepare for the High School Equivalency test. This position reports directly to the Get REAL Director or the Associate Dean for College and Career Readiness and has the following responsibilities:

* Promotes College mission, values, and vision

* Teaches high school equivalency courses to meet individual students' academic needs

* Contextualizes math and English lessons to prepare the students for work

* Evaluates student progress and provides appropriate feedback

* Uses and promotes appropriate technology to enhance student learning outcomes

* Carries out a program of self-evaluation to determine instructional effectiveness

* Assists in the evaluation of courses and programs

* Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy

* Attends appropriate College and School meetings

* Maintains accessibility to students, faculty and staff

* Performs other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

Your attributes

Required:

* Bachelor's degree from a federally accredited institution

* Ability to provide leadership in anticipating and responding to change

* Creativity and openness to change

* Strong oral and written communication skills

* Strong computer skills (including familiarity with MS Office 2010)

* Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment

Preferred:

Prior experience working with justice-involved individuals

Prior experience teaching literacy and/or developmental skills

Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods

Work environment

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment in the collection, evaluation and analysis of data and student assessment, curriculum development, and program review; ease of mobility in supervising students in the clinical and classroom settings, assisting with patient care, carrying equipment, supplies and other instructional materials; travel between campus and clinical locations may be required;

and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.
