The Upgrading Machine Operator safely operates and monitors production equipment within the Upgrading department working either in Lamination, Saturation, or Technical Logistics. This position supports safe, efficient production while maintaining established quality, productivity, and process standards. Operators may be cross-trained and assigned to multiple areas based on operational needs.

Starting Pay: $21/hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB FUNCTIONS:(Job functions include but are not limited to the following)

  • Safely operate, monitor, and adjust assigned production equipment.
  • Perform machine startups, shutdowns, setups, and product changeovers.
  • Monitor production processes and equipment parameters to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Perform required product quality checks and identify nonconforming material.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and raise concerns as needed.
  • Stage, handle, and move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products.
  • Ensure production areas are supplied with the correct materials according to the production schedule.
  • Complete required production, quality, downtime, and material documentation.
  • Follow all safety standards, material-handling requirements, procedures, including PPE, and Lockout/Tagout guidelines.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, cost, productivity, waste, and downtime.
  • Communicate effectively during shift handovers, collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics as needed.
  • All employees are authorized and expected to stop work when unsafe conditions are present.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS

  • Continuous Operations:
    This position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule following a 2-2-3 pattern, which provides scheduled weekdays off each week and every other three-day weekend off. Shifts alternate every two weeks between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (days) and 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (nights).
  • Employees are expected to maintain reliable attendance and arrive on time for all scheduled shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 12 hours.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Working in an industrial manufacturing environment, around machinery, mobile equipment, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and working in elevated areas as required.
  • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE

  • Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
  • The ability to effectively and safely use power tools.

SKILLS, EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic mechanical, computer, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read and follow production orders, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Basic critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment or production issues while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
