What’s the job?

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the EHS Specialist supports plant operations by driving execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at the site level. This role focuses on field presence, employee engagement, and consistent follow-up to ensure risks are identified, addressed, and mitigated.

This position primarily focuses on employee health and safety and provides day-to-day technical health and safety oversight to ensure compliance with OSHA regulation and internal standards. Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations and working knowledge of fire protection and industrial risk prevention.

This position partners with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to reinforce that safety is equal to production and quality and to support risk reduction across the site.

Key Responsibilities Safety Execution and Culture Leadership
  • Reinforce safety as equal to production and quality through daily floor presence, promote a culture of safety where employees feel empowered to report hazards and participate in the safety program
  • Ensure effective communication and scaling of lessons learned across the site
  • Monitor employees, contractors, and visitors for compliance with site policies
  • Coach and counsel plant staff on best safety practices
  • Actively participate in business and regional EHS meetings as necessary
EHS Program Management & Site Support
  • Develop and support the implementation of EHS programs for the site
  • Facilitate the completion of risk assessment activities, document assessment utilizing digital tools, and ensure plans and actions address risk elimination
  • Perform periodic EHS assessments and audits to ensure internal and external compliance
  • Coordinate, support and perform industrial hygiene assessments and needed to determine exposure to workplace chemicals
  • Support industrial risk prevention activities as needed
Incident Management and Corrective Actions
  • Support the response to site EHS incidents and releases, serve as an active member of the emergency response team;
  • Track near-miss, first aid, and incident reports and ensure follow-up
  • Lead & support incident investigations to identify contributing factors
  • Verify corrective actions are implemented and effective
EHS Data, Systems, and Reporting
  • Maintain and use internal systems to track leading and lagging indicators
  • Analyze trends and communicate insights to drive improvement
  • Ensure the on-time completion/submission of EHS data with internal and external stakeholders
  • Track action closure and sustain gaps as needed
  • Support accuracy and consistency of EHS data
Training and Employee Engagement
  • Conduct new hire orientation and support EHS training programs
  • Develop and lead toolbox talks, safety observations, and coach reporting behaviors

    Coordinate and conduct monthly EHS Team meetings
  • Track training completion and identify skill gaps
  • Encourage employee participation in observations and reporting
  • Facilitate cross-functional learning across operations and maintenance
IS THIS THE JOB FOR YOU? Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Management, Business or a related field is preferred.

Certifications: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment with a focus on safety, environmental health, or industrial hygiene and working with internal and/or external customers in a business environment.
