Licensed Practical Nurse
Positions in this job family are responsible for performing technical direct and indirect nursing care. Responsibilities are conducted under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. Tasks include taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, along with various other technical nursing tasks. The goal is to provide health care to patients and others.
Typical Functions:
- Performs nursing procedures or specialized functions in accordance with knowledge, skills, and licensure.
- Participates in the evaluation of responses to interventions.
- Assists in assessing, reporting, and recording health status of patients in a variety of settings.
- Participates in developing and implementing appropriate aspects of a plan of care.
- Administers medications as ordered.
- Reports appropriate patient information to supervisor or appropriate health team member.
Level Descriptor:
Level I:
This is the basic level where employees perform routine entry-level tasks under close professional supervision. Training status is provided to build skills in delivering nursing care as a licensed practical nurse.
Level II:
This is the career level where employees perform a full range of nursing assignments as a licensed practical nurse. Responsibilities include providing guidance and training to others in completing nursing tasks and activities.
Requirements:
All health care staff shall complete required online training before assignment. The time spent in training is not billable. Training includes required in-service documents for temporary medical suppliers. Documentation of completed training must be provided prior to assignment of temporary health care personnel.
Education and Experience:
Level I Requirements include possession of a valid and permanent license as a licensed practical nurse approved by the relevant nursing board.
Level II Requirements include possession of a valid and permanent license as a licensed practical nurse plus one year of practical nursing experience.
Special Requirements:
Some positions may require willingness and ability to fulfill job-related travel normally associated with the position.
