Salary: $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing manufacturing/marine operation in Lexington, South Carolina. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with at least 3 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing or marine environment who understands the connection between accounting, operations, and profitability.
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in the month-end close process, while providing financial insight around product costing, margins, variances, and operational performance. The successful candidate will be hands-on, analytical, highly organized, and comfortable partnering with operations and leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and support the full month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
Analyze manufacturing costs, product margins, labor, overhead, and material variances
Prepare and review costing and variance reports to identify trends and areas for improvement
Partner closely with operations, purchasing, and production to understand financial results and cost drivers
Assist with inventory accounting, standard costing, and inventory reconciliations
Monitor actual versus budgeted costs and investigate significant variances
Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting schedules
Assist with financial statement preparation and management reporting
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, audits, and other financial analysis as needed
Provide timely and accurate financial information to accounting and operational leadership
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or marine environment
Strong understanding of cost accounting, margins, and variance analysis
Demonstrated experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting
Understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory, labor, overhead, and product costing
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with ERP/accounting systems
Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and operations teams
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
The ideal candidate is someone who can go beyond transactional accounting and understand why the numbers are moving. This person should be comfortable digging into costs, identifying margin opportunities, explaining variances, and working directly with operations to improve financial performance.
