- Bachelor's degree in theatre education or related discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification.
- Must have current government‑issued identification.
8 Hours / 190 Days – Certified Salary Schedule. Employment details are based on full‑time status during the school year; adjusted for part‑time or shorter term hires.
General SummaryUnder general supervision instructs students in theatre and related creative skills, directs at least one production per year, and assists in other school programs as assigned.

- Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
- Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
- Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
- Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
- Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students; supervises students in classroom activities and in other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.
- Demonstrates a variety of 21st‑century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
- Designs and facilitates engaging, high‑level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st‑century global, knowledge‑based society.
- Demonstrates and teaches theatre concepts and skills such as improvisation, acting, directing, play writing, costuming, lighting, make‑up and set design and construction; utilizes visual teaching aids to present subject matter.
- Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progression in class work and assists students with all phases of the theatre class; observes student work to make criticisms and corrections; evaluates contributions in group projects.
- Instructs students in the proper use and care of the theatre facility and its various parts (curtains, lights, tools, etc.).
- Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
- Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.
- Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
- Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
- Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
- Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, and personal and academic goals and expectations; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students' progress; suggests interventions as appropriate.
- If applicable, supervises activities of assigned instructional assistants which involve such duties as planning and reviewing work, as well as providing instruction, guidance and training.
