  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with previous student teaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid South Carolina Teaching License (any applicable area).

Must have current government‑issued identification.

Terms of employment are based on full‑time employment during the school year; adjustments apply to part‑time employees or those hired for less than an entire school year.

General Summary

Under general supervision, instructs students in one or more middle‑level core subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One toward increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates, and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st‑century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high‑level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st‑century global, knowledge‑based society.
  • Teaches concepts and skills based on state standards that facilitate learning and contribute to students' academic and personal development.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; collaborates with other staff members to analyze assessment data in relation to student learning and develops instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects.
  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
  • Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Meets with parents, administrators, and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, and personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students' progress; suggests interventions as appropriate.
  • If applicable, supervises activities of assigned instructional assistants which involve such duties as planning and reviewing work, as well as providing instruction, guidance, and training.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for supervision of students in classrooms, field studies, and other instructional settings. Oversees classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Maintains and inventories equipment; reports malfunctions and safety issues.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.
