• Bachelor's degree in art education or related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Valid SC Teaching License (any applicable area)

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

Under general supervision, instructs students in art and creative skills, including the care and maintenance of related materials and supplies. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

• Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications.
• Demonstrates and teaches art concepts and skills such as painting, sketching and designing; utilizes visual teaching aids to present subject matter.
• Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progression in class work and assists students with all phases of the art class; observes student work to make criticisms and corrections; evaluates contributions in group projects.
• Instructs students in the proper use and care of art related tools, materials and supplies.
• Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
• Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.
• Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
• Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
• Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
• Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, and personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students' progress; suggests interventions as appropriate.
• If applicable, supervises activities of assigned instructional assistants which involve such duties as planning and reviewing work, as well as providing instruction, guidance and training.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsible for supervision of students in classroom, field study and other instructional settings. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions and safety issues.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
