Qualifications
  • Master's degree in speech/language pathology or an advanced program approved by the State Board of Education for the preparation of speech/language therapists or degree in education.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Minimum qualifying score(s) on the area examination(s) required by the State Board of Education

Valid SLP licensure through SC LLR

Valid South Carolina Teaching License (any applicable area)

Must have current government issued identification

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment may be adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

General Summary

Provides Assistive (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). consultation, and services to students as needed to address educational and communication limitations and strengths and recommend equipment to fit their needs; collaborates with educational teams to determine appropriate accommodations, modifications, assistive technology devices and services that allow students to benefit from their specially designed instruction and/or participate in general education curriculum in their least restrictive environment.

Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Coordinates school-based teams in the evaluation, planning, and implementation of AT assessments, tools and services. Provides guidance in recommendations to students' IEP based on the results of the AT evaluation.
  • Provides training to students' educational team, including school personnel, family members and outside providers if indicated, in regards to AT tools and strategies.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Plans and provides in-services and other training to school personnel in regards to AT tools and services, effective teaching strategies and/or accommodations and modifications in regards to AT tools and strategies.
  • Maintains Assistive Technology equipment and devices in the AT lending library and makes recommendations for the procurement of additional equipment and materials.
  • Maintains documentation regarding AT recommendations and services provided.
  • Schedules AT services and/or training with school personnel and travel to schools or coordinate virtual training as scheduled.
  • Provides guidance and direct training to students who use AT when indicated.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of Assistive Technology tools and develops instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap.
  • Provides technical assistance for AT tools and materials and performs basic maintenance on AT equipment from the AT lending library.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Remains current with research and best practices in the Assistive Technology field by participating in continuing education opportunities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

Provides student evaluations and training of Assistive Technology tools. Provides staff training. Responsible for materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions.

SKILLS And ABILITIES

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines.
