Instructional Assistant, Preschool
Under close supervision of a certified teacher, works with individuals or a small group of students identified as disabled under Individuals With Disabilities Act (IDEA) in an effort to provide physical, emotional and academic support for them to gain maximum benefit from special education programs. Assists teachers with various classroom activities.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or
- An associate's degree (or higher); or
- A passing score on the Para Pro or Para Pathways Assessment.
Terms of employment are based on full time employment during the school year with conditions adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
Essential functions include supporting the mission of Lexington County School District One, interacting with stakeholders, maintaining a safe and productive working environment, operating office and technology equipment, maintaining confidentiality, participating in professional meetings and training sessions, and performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibility includes supervising students in classrooms and other instructional areas as assigned.
Other skills and abilities include knowledge of district requirements, reliable transportation, knowledge of special needs of disabled students, ability to provide supplemental instruction, ability to assist in classroom activities, ability to maintain effective working relationships, ability to speak clearly and concisely, ability to apply knowledge and current research, ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule, ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks, and computer literacy.
Physical demands include lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, walking, talking, listening, reaching with hands and arms, and specific vision abilities. The position requires frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
The work environment is primarily in a classroom setting with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Travel between schools is required; no overnight travel required. The noise level varies from quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.
