QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable world language or related discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid SC Teaching License (any applicable area)

Must have current government issued identification

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

8 Hours/190 Days

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

GENERAL

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision instructs students in world language skills such as culture appreciation, pronunciation, spelling/vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, etc. Assists with other school programs as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society.
  • Teaches concepts and skills in the three modes of world language learning: presentational, interpretive and interpersonal within the context of authentic real-life situations using the cultural pyramid.
  • Presents new skills and situations using all available technology and authentic texts to guide the students in a self-directed acquisition of the target language.
  • Follows district curriculum and guidelines.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, performance assessments that are both formative and summative, discipline reports, letters to parents, etc.
  • Organizes classroom areas for daily instruction.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, software, technology tools, equipment and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment and tools.
  • Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to student learning and collaborates with peers to develop instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
  • Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issues reports to inform parents of students' progress in accordance with school board policy.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for students in classrooms, field studies and other instructional settings. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions.
