Civil Engineer (Entry Level)
The Town of Lexington Department of Transportation seeks an entry level Civil Engineer to develop, manage, and administer civil and municipal engineering projects involving design, construction oversight, and field inspections. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Transportation Director. This position aids with asset management, capital improvement planning and projects, transportation planning and projects, as well as traffic safety.
Responsibilities- Prepare engineering plan specifications and contracts.
- Perform routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Provide field inspections of municipal improvement projects and developer-installed public improvement projects for conformance with engineering plans, specifications, construction, and safety standards.
- Assist with use of GIS and survey equipment to collect public infrastructure asset data, coordinate projects with contractors, citizens, regulatory agencies, and developers.
- Assist with use of traffic data collection equipment to collect traffic volume, speed data, and video data.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for report writing and interpreting technical and statistical information.
- Proficiency in software programs such as MS Office suite, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Micro Station CADD.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, construction, or environmental engineering required.
- Engineering Intern License (EIT) preferred or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
- Valid Class D Driver’s License.
