A multi-state/multi-facility food manufacturer is looking to add an experience Director of Health and Safety to it's leadership team.

This is an onsite role based in the Lexington, SC area with up to 2 weeks of travel a month.

The DIRECTOR of HEALTH and SAFETY is responsible for leading the health, safety programs for 3 facilities to reduce accidents and other injuries that are related to work. They will design and monitor safety programs using data trends and make necessary changes to the program such as increasing safety measures when needed. The Director of Health and Safety will look to create proactive safety cultures at workplaces where employees feel comfortable to voice their concerns.

  • Implement and maintain all Safety and Health programs.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with corporate leadership and each facility safety group.
  • Assists as needed in the investigation of all near misses, first aid cases and recordable cases.
  • Keep the management team informed of any safety and health related issues and/or concerns identified within your respective scope of responsibility.
  • Track injury trends and develop action plans to address identified accident trends.
  • Spend time being visible in the processing plants and other site locations as available and ensure your safety team is doing the same.
  • Provide training support to the organization and ensure that all required monthly training is completed as scheduled.
  • Conduct periodic safety and health audits and track findings to ensure closure.
  • Interact daily with the leadership members, safety teams and the occupation health staff in a way that builds a team atmosphere.
  • Be actively involved in the company’s workers compensation program by attending regularly scheduled meeting, providing supporting documentation for claims in litigation, and assist Occupational health team/Third party administrator in effectively managing all open claims.
  • Be the site’s liaison with the Property Insurance company to provide closure to open recommendations in addition to working with the company’s Engineering construction department to ensure all new construction meets FM Global specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of Safety Manager experience with at least 5 in food manufacturing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge in the areas of workers compensation, OSHA, DOT, etc, is essential
