Overview
The Engineering/Facilities Manager plans, organizes, and directs Manufacturing Services functions—including Maintenance, Manufacturing/Process Engineering, and Facilities Engineering—through proper use of parts, tools, machinery, equipment, and facilities to support all manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities- Direct the development and improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Direct day‑to‑day maintenance activities to ensure uptime and safety goals.
- Analyze, review, and modify existing processes to optimize productivity, quality, and safety.
- Ensure conformance with applicable regulations and standards (OSHA, environmental, health and safety, etc.).
- Consult with departments and/or project teams to resolve questions of process intent, product capability, customer requirements, and manufacturing capability, and develop manufacturing processes that meet all specified requirements.
- Design, fabricate, or purchase tooling, equipment, fixtures, etc., to test manufacturing capability of products, identify any process problems, and modify accordingly to achieve specified objectives while meeting project timing milestones.
- Develop cost requirements for projects and write and track capital expenditure requests through completion.
- Purchase, fabricate, and install capital equipment to maintain state‑of‑the‑art production processes and future operation readiness.
- Establish Gantt charts for projects with regular updates to monitor progress and assure timely completion.
- Coordinate large‑scale projects, acting as general contractor with fabricators and vendors, while leading assigned internal personnel.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Serve as a member of the Plant Staff; support and help develop plant objectives; collaborate with other departments and company locations.
- Develop a good rapport with other facilities and inter‑plant associates, and establish an information‑sharing system that enhances project success and promotes new ideas.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred), or Associate’s degree in Science or Engineering with 5–7 years experience in Facilities and Manufacturing; or, without a degree, 15 years of experience in Facilities Management.
- Strong history of demonstrated success in a similar position.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and team‑building skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with team members, customers, vendors, and all levels of management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, project‑management software, design software, and ERP systems.
- Automotive industry experience preferred.
- Lean/TPS experience preferred.
