Job DescriptionBuilds and repairs machine shop tools using machining operations and measuring instruments. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools, dies, jigs and molds. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in an area of specialty with 0‑2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
- Produces new tooling to print specifications as well as repair existing tooling
- Services and repairs notching, single hit and progressive dies
- Services tooling throughout plant
- Exercise good housekeeping in work area
- Observe good safety practices
- Performs other job duties as assigned by Supervisor or Team Leader
- Read micrometer, vernier caliper, indicators, and have a working knowledge of trigonometry
- Understand simple and complex drawings and interpret geometric tolerances
- Experience with manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, MIG & TIG welding
- Proficient in Imperial and Metric measurements
- Ability to work from engineering sketches and/or examples to fabricate tooling and fixturing
High School Diploma / GED required.
Trade/Technical School preferred.
Minimum 3‑5 years hands‑on experience as a machinist.
