Job Duties

The Director of Athletic Multimedia is responsible for leading the multimedia and live production efforts for VMI Athletics. This position oversees the production and streaming of home athletic events, including ESPN+ broadcasts and other conference or institutional broadcast requirements. The position also creates digital content that promotes VMI Athletics, its programs, and cadet athletes across multiple platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct and produce live broadcasts of VMI home athletic events, including ESPN+ and other conference digital network productions.
  • Coordinate all aspects of game day video production, including cameras, graphics, replay, audio, streaming, and other production elements.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student workers and other game day production personnel.
  • Produce and edit video content for VMI Athletics, including highlights, promotional videos, interviews, features, and other digital content.
  • Work closely with Athletic Communications, Marketing, and other athletics staff to develop content that promotes VMI teams and cadet athletes.
  • Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot multimedia production equipment and technology.
  • Ensure broadcasts meet applicable conference, institutional, and platform production standards.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new multimedia and digital content initiatives.
  • Maintain organized video archives and multimedia files.
  • Provide multimedia support for press conferences, special events, announcements, and other departmental needs.
  • Coordinate production schedules and staffing for multiple athletic events throughout the year.
  • Remain current on trends and technology related to live sports production, streaming, video editing, and digital media.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of VMI Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of live sports production, video editing, cameras, audio, graphics, replay systems, and streaming technology. Ability to troubleshoot production equipment, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced collegiate athletics environment. Strong communication and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to lead and train student and game day production staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcasting, digital media, sports media, or a related field. Previous experience with live sports broadcasting, video production, or collegiate athletics is preferred. Experience producing ESPN+ or similar live streaming productions is also preferred.

Additional Considerations

This position requires a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on athletic competitions, special events, and departmental needs.
