Position: Teacher of the Deaf | Lexington, Virginia

This contract-based role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about supporting students with hearing loss, ensuring they have the resources, instruction, and advocacy needed to succeed academically and personally.

Key

Qualifications:
  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing or equivalent credentials
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in educational environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of assistive technology, audiological devices, and current best practices in the field
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and evidence-based instructional strategies
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, accessible classroom environment that promotes language development and academic achievement
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct instruction, consultation, and support to students with hearing loss, focusing on communication, social, and academic skill development
  • Assess students' abilities and needs to tailor instruction and accommodations appropriately
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff to ensure cohesive service delivery
  • Advocate for and facilitate the use of assistive hearing devices and supplementary materials
  • Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and parent communication to track and celebrate student growth
  • Educate school staff and peers to encourage understanding and inclusion
  • Maintain accurate records and follow best practices in documentation
