Job Duties

Working under the direction of the Director of Cadet-Athlete Development and Director of Athletic Compliance, the Academic Success Coach will assist in the fulfillment and facilitation of the first-year transitional program. The role serves as a liaison between first-year cadet-athletes and Cadet-Athlete Development staff, monitoring academic success and encouraging self-advocacy.

  • Work with first-year cadet-athletes to monitor academic performance, teach organization, planning, and other learning and study skills and strategies.
  • Be familiar with academic support and enhancement resources available, policy and procedure of the VMI, including the Honor Code, Southern Conference, and NCAA.
  • Communicate effectively with cadets by establishing a positive rapport and maintaining a professional, patient, and engaged demeanor.
  • Oversight of NCAA guided study session hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Additional Considerations
  • Previous experience in student services (tutoring, mentoring, etc.).
  • Previous experience working in intercollegiate athletics or intercollegiate athletics academic support.
  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours, as required.
