Assistant or Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering (Tenure-Track)
The Mechanical Engineering Department at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) invites applications for a faculty position in the areas of Dynamics, Vibrations or Mechanical Design. This position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level commensurate with experience and accomplishments. The appointment begins August 1, 2026. The Mechanical Engineering program is ABET accredited and is wholly undergraduate.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate mechanical engineering courses, mechanical design courses, advise/supervise student projects and research, and enhance current departmental research areas.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, and must have excellent teaching and communication skills. Industry experience, especially in the areas of mechatronics and/or machine design, and professional registration are preferred.
Applicants should provide a detailed curriculum vita that contains at least three references (with addresses and phone numbers), a clear statement of their teaching interests and philosophy, and a brief summary of their research interests with the application.
