The Environmental Specialist Sr for Public Water Systems provides technical assistance to groundwater waterworks under Virginia's Safe Drinking Water Act mandate. Responsibilities include conducting inspections and sanitary surveys, interpreting regulations, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, training operators, and providing public information on drinking water quality. This is a restricted position funded through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for 12 months, with continued employment contingent on annual funding review.
Keyqualifications:
- Working knowledge of biology, microbiology, chemistry, and math
- Knowledge of technology associated with provision of drinking water
- Proven experience expressing facts clearly verbally and in writing and presenting at public meetings
- Experience analyzing information and data and making recommendations for corrective actions
- Proven experience interpreting complex federal, state and local laws, policies, and regulations
- Valid State Driver's License required to operate a state vehicle
