The Georgetown University Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) connects people affected by mass incarceration with opportunities to shape their own futures. PJI's mission is to empower currently and formerly incarcerated people by providing access to education and employment and by advocating for just outcomes in the legal system. We aim to support people as scholars, professionals, and leaders who can break cycles of incarceration and strengthen our communities.
Grounded in Georgetown's commitment to social justice, PJI also serves to engage the wider university community in understanding the causes and responding to the consequences of mass incarceration, one of the most pressing crises of our time
The Program Manager, MORCA-Georgetown Paralegal Program (PM), will provide daily support for the Paralegal Program, and will coordinate closely with DOES, MORCA, and SCS to deliver the program. The PM will help to create calendars/schedules for the program, generate and process MOUs with our partners, help recruit law firms and other organizations to provide paid placements for the program participants, work with PJI and SCS staff to deliver the 20-week program in person, ensure participants are paid, and process emergency assistance funding requests.
The PM will plan and execute events related to the program, including securing and paying fees for speakers and other guests. The PM will coordinate with alumni of the program to deliver mentoring and tutoring services to the new cohort of students. The PM will also engage in evaluation of the program during and following each cohort and contribute to future planning discussions internally and with program partners.
Interactions
The PM will report to the Managing Director. The PM will work closely with the Finance Manager and the Director of Reentry Services. The PM will collaborate and coordinate with other offices, departments, and schools within Georgetown University, and with the program’s public and private partner organizations (specifically MORCA, DOES, SCS, and area law firms/organizations). The PM will take the lead on the daily operations of the Paralegal Program, with little to no supervision expected on most tasks.
Requirementsand Qualifications Requirements:
- Associates Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 3-5 years of work experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute
- Critical attention to detail
- Self-directed, independent decision-making abilities
- Outstanding interpersonal and networking skills
- Creativity in providing value-add solutions within the parameters of the budget
- Experience working with returning citizens
- Experience working in Higher Education/Academic Programs
