• Plan and administer anesthesia and related care to patients as requested by physician for diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical or obstetrical procedures, according to the standards and principles of anesthesiology.
• Develop a plan of anesthesia care for patients of all ages in coordination with an anesthesiologist or the patient's physician.
• Implement and adjust the anesthetic plan for patients to adapt to the patient's response.
• Document response to anesthesia in a complete and accurate manner.
• Assure patient safety during anesthesia and during transfer of care to other qualified health care providers.
• Collaborate with and direct other health care personnel related to the administration of anesthesia care.

• Education:
  • Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Graduate of a Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs (COA) accredited school of nurse anesthesia education.
• Experience:
  • None.
• Licensure, certification, and registration:
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner-Nurse Anesthetist in the State of Virginia.
  • Current certification or recertification as an active, practicing nurse anesthetist granted by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Maintain current American Heart Association approved BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
