The Equipment Manager (EM) reports to the Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) or the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent (AGCS) in his/her absence. The EM is responsible for the coordination, training, and supervision of Equipment Technicians. The EM is responsible for all functions required for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of all construction, maintenance, golf cart, and on-road equipment.
The Equipment Manager is expected to execute the following functions:
- Work collaboratively with GCS and AGCS on a daily basis to ensure efficient and productive work schedules
- Plan, maintain, and execute scheduled preventative maintenance on all club-owned or leased tools, equipment and vehicles
- Diagnose, direct, and supervise all necessary repair work on all equipment
- Schedule and supervise daily performance and safety inspections of equipment
- Schedule and coordinate all warranty repair requirements with appropriate vendors
- Maintain service and maintenance records on all equipment, as well as fuel-usage data
- Construct, track, and maintain equipment repair and maintenance budgets
- Participate in management and staff meetings; and communicates needs, plans, and expectations
- Hire, train, motivate and direct the responsibilities of AEM and ETs
- Schedule EM, AEM and ETs to allow for reasonable coverage of responsibilities at all times
- Assist in the training of all employees in proper safe and efficient use of all equipment
- Maintain accurate and financially-efficient inventories of all equipment, replacement parts, supplies, fuels, lubricants, and tools
- Assist the GCS in building and executing a long-term equipment replacement and acquisition plan
- Represent the club in building relationships with all equipment, parts, and supply vendor representatives
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient maintenance facility
- Maintain a schedule of continuing education for EM, AEM, and ETs
- Evaluate and execute annual performance reviews for AEM and ETs
The Equipment Manager is expected to possess and/or progress toward the following:
- a working knowledge of the care, maintenance, and operation of construction equipment, golf course equipment and automotives
- a working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of diesel and gasoline engines, electric motors, electrical and hydraulic systems, sprayer systems, and reel and bedknife grinding and adjustment
- skill in the use of a wide variety of repair tools and equipment, including welding and fabrication
- the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunction
- strong leadership and communication abilities, and interpersonal skills
- a dedication to personal improvement and organizational advancement
- CTEM designation and EMCP certification
- minimum 5-years experience as an Equipment Technician or Assistant Equipment Manager or 2-years experience as an Equipment Manager
- a valid driver s license
