The School Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The SLP supports students’ ability to access and benefit from the educational environment by improving their communication skills. This role includes developing individualized treatment plans, collaborating with educational teams, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education services.
Essential Job Functions- Collaboration &
Education:
Collaborates with healthcare professionals, educators, caregivers, or family members to support treatment goals; educates patients and families on communication strategies, home programs, or maintenance techniques. Provides training to staff or team members as appropriate. - Community Engagement:
Collaborate with parents, families, school board members, citizens, community organizations, and stakeholders. Participate in district and community-related events. - Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure the school complies with local, state, and federal regulations, prepare and submit required reports, and stay informed of education laws and policy changes. - Documentation & Compliance:
Maintains accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and billing (as applicable). Ensures compliance with federal, state, and facility-specific regulations, including HIPAA; contributes to case reviews, team meetings, and care planning. - Evaluation & Diagnosis:
Conducts comprehensive assessments to evaluate speech, language, cognitive communication, and/or swallowing disorders; interprets diagnostic findings and communicates results clearly to patients, families, and care teams. Develops individualized treatment plans based on patient goals, diagnosis, and evidence-based practice. - Professional Development:
Stays current with continuing education, licensure, and certifications; follows ethical standards and best practices as outlined by ASHA and applicable regulatory bodies. - Student Support:
Foster a safe and inclusive school environment, address student behavioral issues, and coordinate resources with parents. - Therapy & Intervention:
Provides one‑on‑one or group therapy sessions to address communication and/or swallowing disorders; uses a variety of evidence‑based techniques and tools tailored to patient needs. Monitor progress and modify treatment plans as needed to achieve outcomes.
