The Impound Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently towing, transporting, and securing vehicles using an auto loader. This role requires strong driving skills, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and the ability to handle potentially stressful or confrontational situations with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a tow truck to impound vehicles in accordance with company policies and local/state regulations.
- Respond to dispatch calls promptly and follow assigned routes or instructions.
- Safely load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles using proper towing procedures.
- Complete all required documentation, including impound reports, vehicle condition notes, and chain‑of‑custody forms.
- Communicate professionally with law enforcement, property owners, and vehicle owners.
- Maintain tow truck cleanliness, fueling, and basic mechanical checks.
- Follow safety protocols to prevent damage to vehicles, property, or equipment.
- Use onboard technology (GPS, dispatch apps, cameras) accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with organizing and securing vehicles at the impound lot when needed.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or equipment issues immediately.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL may be preferred depending on truck type.
- Clean driving record with no major violations.
- Prior towing or commercial driving experience is a plus but not always required.
- Ability to operate auto loader or other tow equipment (training may be provided).
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical tasks related to towing.
- Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays depending on company needs.
- Work involves driving, outdoor activity, and occasional interaction with upset or distressed individuals.
- Overtime opportunities may be available.
- Frequent driving, entering, and exiting a tow or impound vehicle
- Standing and walking during vehicle inspections and paperwork
Bending, kneeling, and crouching to check VINs, tires, and vehicle condition - Light pushing/pulling when positioning equipment or securing vehicles
