Job Description

USD 480 is hiring Building Substitutes for the  School Year. These are full-time, benefits eligible positions and require 60 semester credit hours and a current KSDE emergency substitute license. As a Building Substitute you will work at a single school for the school year, providing consistent support for absent teachers by covering classrooms, supervising students, and maintaining a productive learning environment.

Key responsibilities include following lesson plans, managing student behavior, filling in for other staff as needed, and building rapport with the school community to ensure educational continuity and support the school's overall function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Coverage:
    Provide instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher across different grade levels and subjects.
  • Instructional Support:
    Follow provided lesson plans, create supplemental materials if needed, and maintain student engagement.
  • Classroom Management:
    Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment for students.
  • Student Supervision:
    Supervise students and ensure their safety during classroom hours, lunch, and other assigned duties.
  • Community Integration:
    Build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff within the single school building.
  • Adaptability:
    Be flexible and prepared to cover various classes, teachers, and duties throughout the school day, adapting to different environments as required.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    Complete daily logs, provide feedback to teachers, and assist with various non-classroom duties as assigned.

  • Consistency:
    Report to the same school daily, providing a consistent presence for the student body.
  • Flexibility:
    Be prepared to work in different classrooms or assist in non-instructional roles, even those not originally assigned.
  • Professionalism:
    Model professional demeanor, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to school policies and regulations.
  • Collaboration:

    Work cooperatively with school staff to maintain learning continuity and support the overall school community.
