Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The High School Security Monitor promotes and maintains a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff, families, and visitors at Liberal High School. This position supports school administrators by monitoring campus activity, supervising students, responding to safety concerns, enforcing district expectations, and assisting during emergencies and school events.
The Security Monitor serves as a highly visible and approachable adult presence throughout the campus. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, fairness, and the ability to build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries and supporting a school climate focused on safety, respect, and student success.
Campus Safety & Security- Patrol assigned areas of the school building, campus grounds, parking lots, athletic facilities, and surrounding property.
- Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, common areas, and other designated locations throughout the school day.
- Identify, investigate, and report unauthorized individuals, suspicious activity, safety hazards, and violations of district policies.
- Assist with securing school facilities before, during, and after the school day as assigned.
- Help ensure students, guests, and community members exit school facilities following athletic events, graduation, and other activities.
- Assist with crowd management during assemblies, athletic events, parent‑teacher conferences, and other school functions.
- Maintain a consistent and visible security presence throughout the campus.
- Monitor student behavior and promote a safe, respectful, and orderly school environment.
- Supervise student movement before school, during passing periods, lunch periods, after school, and during assigned extracurricular activities.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students.
- Address minor behavioral concerns using positive intervention and de‑escalation strategies.
- Refer students requiring disciplinary action, counseling, or additional support to the appropriate administrator or student support personnel.
- Encourage students to follow school expectations, district policies, and established safety procedures.
- Assist administrators and staff in maintaining an environment that supports learning and student well‑being.
- Assist administrators and staff during emergencies, crisis situations, evacuations, lockdowns, and other safety incidents.
- Respond promptly to student conflicts, accidents, medical situations, and security concerns.
- Support first responders, law enforcement officers, and emergency personnel as directed by school administration.
- Identify and report hazards or conditions that could affect the safety of students, staff, or visitors.
- Participate in emergency drills, safety exercises, and preparedness activities.
- Remain calm and exercise sound judgment during stressful or rapidly changing situations.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, visitors, and community members.
- Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, school resource officers, custodial staff, and other district personnel.
- Prepare accurate written reports regarding incidents, observations, policy violations, and safety concerns.
- Read and respond to district email and other communication platforms regularly.
- Share relevant safety information with administrators and appropriate staff in a timely manner.
- Maintain effective working relationships that contribute to a positive school culture.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and district information in accordance with FERPA, district policy, and other applicable laws.
