Senior CNC Machinist

Shift: 2nd Shift (3:30 PM – 12:00 AM)

Salary: $28.00 – $35.00 per hour

Our facility utilizes modern CNC machinery and traditional machine tools to execute complex prototype and production machining. We are expanding our team to meet growing customer demand and strengthen our technical capabilities on the shop floor.

Senior Journeyman Machinist Role

Senior Journeyman Machinist plans, sets up, and executes complex machining operations across manual and CNC equipment with total independence. This role exists to produce high-precision components, drive process optimization, and provide technical leadership and mentoring across the machining staff.

Senior Journeyman Machinist Responsibilities
  • Plan, set up, and execute complex multi-operation machining jobs from engineering prints or 3D models with minimal to no supervision
  • Set up and operate a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools, including mills, lathes, and multi-axis equipment
  • Write, edit, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software or G-code at the machine control
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, assembly prints, and advanced GD&T callouts
  • Develop custom fixturing, tooling strategies, and work-holding solutions for new or challenging part geometries
  • Perform advanced in-process and final inspections using precision instruments including CMM, optical comparators, and surface profilometers
  • Troubleshoot machining defects, identify root causes, and perform corrective actions to restore part conformance
  • Lead first article inspections (FAI) and maintain detailed documentation such as setup sheets, tooling lists, and inspection records
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Machinists and Machine Operators to elevate overall shop floor capabilities
Senior Journeyman Machinist Reporting Relationships

This position reports directly to the Shop Manager or Shop Supervisor. The role has no direct administrative reports but provides daily technical direction and mentorship to shop floor personnel.

About You
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED, with an associate degree, trade school certificate, or formal Journeyman credential preferred
  • Bring 6 to 10 years of progressive, hands‑on machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrate expert‑level blueprint reading skills and comprehensive interpretation of GD&T symbols
  • Hold tight tolerances of ±0.0005" or tighter on a consistent basis across various workpiece materials
  • Show proficiency in CNC programming (G-code) and CAM software such as Mastercam or Fusion 360
  • Display hands‑on experience with advanced metrology equipment including CMM operation, micrometers, and optical comparators
  • Work fully independently to plan work sequences, select tooling, and solve complex machining challenges
  • Communicate effectively to collaborate with engineering on design for manufacturability and train junior machinists

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Requires prolonged standing and walking on a concrete shop floor
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs, with mechanical assistance available for heavier lifts
  • Involves exposure to metal chips, cutting fluids, lubricants, coolants, and moderate to loud noise levels
  • Requires proper PPE at all times, including safety glasses, steel‑toed boots, and hearing protection as needed
