Job DescriptionDebate/Speech Assistant Director – High School
Liberty High School. This role supports the creation of a successful debate/speech department, coaching students and competing in various competitions throughout the school year. Reports to the Director of Fine Arts.
Essential Functions- Attend all rehearsals and competitions to coach students to their full potential.
- Create an environment conducive to learning, fostering students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Evaluate student rehearsals and performances, providing constructive feedback and critique.
- Manage equipment, ensuring all items required for events are accounted for.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
- Prepare students for District and State competitions, following MSHSAA guidelines.
- Schedule individual or group sessions to provide tailored instruction and enhance skill levels.
- Supervise students at extracurricular events, ensuring proper behavior in accordance with Board policies.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills:

Knowledge: perform basic math; understand equipment used in activities/programs; apply relevant laws, codes, policies, or regulations; maintain professional standards and practices; possess knowledge of competitive speech and debate.
Abilities: schedule activities, meetings, or events; be flexible to work with others in varied circumstances; work with data using defined processes; operate equipment with standardized methods; work with diverse individuals; interpret guidelines; problem‑solve by identifying issues and creating action plans; demonstrate leadership, direction, and team building; manage priorities; work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
ResponsibilitiesWork under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct other persons within a small work unit; operate within a defined budget; utilize resources from other units as needed; positively impact the organization’s services.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing; fine finger dexterity. Job composition: 40% sitting, 20% walking, 40% standing. Operated under minimal temperature variations.
ExperienceJob‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility desired.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.
EquivalencyKnowledge and experience teaching Debate/Forensics.
Required Testing, Certificates, and LicensesCriminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
