Senior Electrical Estimator

We have an opening for a Senior Electrical Estimator to join our pre‑construction team in the Kansas City, MO area.

Job Summary

The Senior Estimator plays a pivotal role at Barts Electric by leading the estimation process for complex and high‑value projects. The role involves analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing detailed cost estimates, and providing critical input for project bids and financial forecasts. The Senior Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and other customers to ensure accuracy and feasibility in all cost assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for various types of projects, including construction, engineering, and infrastructure.
  • Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for various types of pursuits, including plan and specification, design build, design assist, and budgets.
  • Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine the scope and requirements.
  • Assess labor, material, equipment, and overhead costs, and integrate them into comprehensive estimates.
  • Prepare and review bid proposals, ensuring all components are accounted for and align with client specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other team members to refine estimates and adjust for project‑specific variables.
  • Present and defend estimates to clients, providing clear explanations and justifications for cost components.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential cost overruns or challenges and recommend strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and relevance and incorporate them into overall estimates.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as necessary to reflect changes in scope or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Lead and mentor junior estimators and support staff, providing guidance and training to enhance team capabilities.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure estimates align with project goals and constraints.
  • Facilitate communication between clients to address any discrepancies or issues related to cost estimations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and best practices to enhance estimation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Implement and refine estimation processes and tools to improve productivity and reliability.
  • Participate in post‑project reviews to analyze estimate performance and identify areas for improvement.
Position Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) is a plus.

Experience

Typically 7‑10 years in cost estimation, with a proven track record in managing estimates for large‑scale and complex projects.

Skills
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., McCormick) and Microsoft Office. Strong understanding of cost estimation techniques, construction methods, and materials.
  • Analytical Abilities:
    Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and evaluate complex project data and documents. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Communication:
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Teamwork:
    Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Time Management:
    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
