The job of Internal Security Officer is performed to support the instructional process with responsibilities for identifying potential welfare, safety, and student security issues; maintaining safety by enforcing disciplinary policies; communicating information and responding to inquiries; coordinating with law enforcement; and providing emergency care to students and others.

This job reports to the Director of Safety & Security.

Pay: $21.70 - $27.22 per hour (based on relevant work experience)

Essential Functions
  • Administers first aid to students, staff and/or visitors (e.g., medical incidents, fight injuries, etc.)
  • Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures.
  • Conducts initial investigation in response to calls or concerns to determine if the elements of crime have occurred.
  • Confers with teachers and other staff to assist in evaluating student behaviors and/or making referrals.
  • Delivers messages to students and teachers throughout the building for communication.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of security system cameras.
  • Escorts students, assigned personnel and/or visitors between facilities.
  • Interacts with students for educational purposes.
  • Maintains proficiency with duty sidearm and qualifies annually.
  • Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods and at student events.
  • Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc.
  • Acts as a crisis team member.
  • Patrols school facilities to provide visibility, maintain security, deter crime.
  • Prepares incident reports and other documents.
  • Provides traffic and parking control.
  • Responds to potential campus crimes and student-related community incidents.
  • Responds to campus security inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, office staff, etc.
  • Responds to various situations such as accidents, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms.
  • Supervises student behavior for a safe learning environment.
Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS:

Adhering to safety practices, scheduling activities, gathering/ collating data, operating job-related equipment.

KNOWLEDGE:
Basic math, written procedures, instructional strategies, safety practices.

ABILITY:
Communicating with diverse groups, working as part of a team, problem solving with data and equipment, handling frequent interruptions.

Responsibilities

Working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading and coordinating others; operating within a defined budget.

Work Environment

Described physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing; 75% sitting, 15% walking, 10% standing.

Experience

Job related experience within a specialized field is required.

Education

Targeted, job related education in a related area.

Equivalency

Required testing, certificates, and licenses:
Drug Screen, Private Officer License.

Continuing Education / Training Clearances

Maintains Certificates and/or Licenses for Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
