Job Description Job Summary

The Outside Plant (OSP) Field Supervisor will manage day-to-day field operations for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) construction projects, ensuring quality, safety, and project timelines are met. This role is critical in overseeing construction activities, verifying the accuracy of work and invoices, and ensuring compliance with company standards and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Fiber the Premise construction, quality control and a detail-oriented approach to project execution.

Duties/Responsibilities

Project Oversight
  • Supervise all phases of OSP construction, including aerial, underground (trenching, plowing, directional boring), and fiber installation activities.
  • Coordinate daily schedules, monitor project milestones, and ensure work aligns with project goals and timelines.
  • Conduct pre-construction site surveys to evaluate field conditions and identify potential challenges.
Quality Control & Compliance
  • Lead quality control efforts to ensure all work meets project specifications, engineering designs, and industry standards.
  • Perform detailed inspections of construction activities to identify and address deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, DOT requirements, and local permitting conditions.
  • Work closely with engineering and project management teams to verify as-built drawings and closeout documentation are accurate and complete.
Invoice Verification & Documentation
  • Verify contractor invoices against actual work performed, ensuring accuracy and alignment with contract terms.
  • Review material usage and labor costs to identify any discrepancies.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of field activities, including daily work reports, material logs, and equipment usage.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to resolve invoice issues and ensure timely payment approvals.
Team Coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for subcontractors and field teams to resolve issues and provide clear guidance.
  • Coordinate with project managers, permitting teams, and vendors to maintain seamless communication across all aspects of the project.
Safety Leadership
  • Enforce safety standards and conduct regular site inspections to maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Investigate any safety incidents or near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions.
Qualifications Skills & Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of OSP construction techniques, including trenching, plowing, directional boring, and fiber splicing.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, construction plans, and as-builts.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify and address quality issues.
  • Strong communication skills to manage subcontractors and report project progress effectively.
  • Skilled in invoice review and validation processes, with an understanding of construction contract terms.
Technical Skills
  • Proficient in fiber construction software and tools (e.g., Vetro, OX, Vitruvi, GIS mapping tools).
  • Basic understanding of fiber network design and materials.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is a plus).
  • 3+ years of experience in OSP construction, including FTTH projects.
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or quality control role.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces or at heights as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
