This role will be tasked with reviewing requests for quotations (RFQs) and preparing instrumentation proposals based on P&IDs/Drawings/Customer Standards. This person will prepare and take ownership for cost estimating of instrumentation, identifying risk, opportunities, and maintaining a winning strategy. This person will bring fresh ideas to the team with the sole purpose of streamlining processes and making them more efficient.
The successful candidate would be expected to:
- Interpret engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and scope of work (must be able to apply customer standards to logic) to identify what instrumentation is required
- Prepare detailed instrumentation estimates in accordance with the scope of work, P&IDs/drawings, customer standards and specifications, and other miscellaneous documentation
- Identify potential project challenges and propose effective solutions
- Provide timely clarifications during the tender process
- Input cost data into proposal formats as per project requirements
- Create and maintain a comprehensive cost estimating database
- Solicit quotes for required instrumentation during the estimation phase of a project
- Be able to discuss large quantity discounts with suppliers and subcontractors
- Distribute and maintain control of instrumentation bid documents
- Identify special requirements for weather protection, etc. when soliciting quotes for estimates
- Coordinate with estimation team to ensure that instrumentation bids are completed before the deadline to be included in bid package
- Collaborate with other estimators, engineers, project managers, sales representatives when necessary
- Ability to brainstorm and streamline instrumentation estimation processes based on experience
Requirements
A strong candidate would likely have:
- Background in electrical and instrumentation disciplines; field experience highly preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial electrical and instrumentation estimating
- Competitive bid experience in the petro-chemical, gas processing, refining, or other heavy industrial facilities
- Advanced knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques
- Ability to conceptualize estimates without complete information and request necessary information as needed
- Ability to coordinate effectively with engineering, procurement, and project control departments
- Thorough understanding of engineering industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbally), with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
- Professional, ethical, and team player willing to grow with the company
