Job Description - Maint Section Assistant I-III - Liberty Maint (2600210)
TxDOT's Beaumont District is looking for a Maintenance Section Assistant I, II, or III to join the Liberty Maintenance Section. In this role, you’ll help ensure safe and reliable roadways by assisting the Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing crews and contractors within a designated area. You’ll lead Transportation Maintenance Crew Chiefs, technical and clerical staff, and respond to emergency situations as needed.
This position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently to maintain TxDOT’s commitment to safety and service for the traveling public.
- Assist the Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by crews and contractors within the section.
- Lead Transportation Maintenance Crew Chiefs, technical, and clerical staff; respond to emergency notifications as needed.
- Inspect road conditions, work in progress, and completed work; ensure projects follow established safety guidelines.
- Maintain records on materials, supplies, and personnel; schedule equipment, materials, and personnel for section projects.
- Operate light and heavy equipment as required; train employees on equipment use and procedures.
- Perform operations in the absence of the supervisor; perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways.
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
- Maintenance Section Assistant I: 5 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work; related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted year for year.
- Maintenance Section Assistant II: 6 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work; related substitutions apply as above.
- Maintenance Section Assistant III: 7 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work; related substitutions apply as above.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained one within 180 calendar days from date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance, and related plans, specifications, and compliance requirements.
- Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance; familiarity with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Incident management, maintenance contract inspection, public relations, surveying tools and instruments, and leading teams.
- Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment; reporting and records management; training and using light highway equipment.
- Maintaining safe and effective working relationships.
- Standing for prolonged periods; walking between worksites; lifting, pushing, and fingering tasks.
- Hearing and speaking clearly; visual acuity for operating machines and vehicles.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical; drug testing may be required for safety impact positions.
- This position is identified as physically demanding and may require reporting for duty on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergencies and adverse weather events.

Liberty, TX (Liberty Maint, 209 Layl Dr, Liberty 77575).
- Schedule:
Full-time - Shift: Day shift; 40 hours; on-site location with some travel as required (up to 10%).
Maintenance Section Assistant I (B19): $48,244 - $76,028 per year
Maintenance Section Assistant II (B20): $51,158 - $81,351 per year
Maintenance Section Assistant III (B21): $54,278 - $87,046 per year
