• Ensures patterns of safe behavior on the part of children when crossing streets.
• Prevents children from committing unsafe and unlawful acts while crossing at school crosswalks.
• Informs motorists, through prescribed standard signals, that children are using the crosswalk and have a right to proceed.
• Observes and reports incidents and conditions detrimental to the safety of pedestrians or motorists.

• Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to relate to and supervise children.
• Must have a general knowledge of traffic safety, pedestrian and traffic laws.
• Must be able to deal tactfully and courteously with school district officials and the public.
• All guards must wear a vest and use a stop sign.

• Regularly (100% of the day) outside in all types of weather conditions.

• Crossing Guard is directly responsible to the Transportation and Crossing Guards Services Assistant Manager.

  Position open until filled. Applicants not hired as permanent crossing guards will be considered for substitute positions. Training will be provided through the City of Waukegan.

  1 hour before school and 1 hour after school (when school is in session).
