  • Conduct forensic examinations of patients and catalog evidence of physical or sexual abuse
  • Conduct forensic interviews about incidents of abuse
  • Collect specimens and DNA samples, photograph bruises and injuries, and perform detailed physical and genital examinations based on patient preference
  • Ensure patients receive necessary medical care and provide guidance and support during treatment
  • Provide work direction to FNE/SANE staff
  • Coordinate resources, procedures, day-to-day operations, and patient flow
  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, care‑plan implementation, and clinical‑outcome evaluation
  • Promote safe, efficient, and quality patient care
  • Train and orient employees, provide day‑to‑day work direction, and give performance input
  • Assign, monitor, and review work; guide staff on complex issues with unit leadership
  • Maintain staff scheduling, evaluate staffing levels, and adjust assignments to maintain productivity
  • Monitor quality of care and compliance with medical center, Nursing department, and International Association of Forensic Nursing guidelines
  • Collaborate with management to develop new and existing programs and services
Requirements
  • Part‑time/per‑diem schedule requiring minimum 48 hours of call per 6‑week call schedule
  • At least 1 year of RN experience
  • Typically 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience within an acute care setting
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association, to be obtained within 6 months
  • Completion of an accredited or approved Nursing program
  • Illinois‑based nurses must obtain an Office of the Attorney General certificate of completion after didactic training and clinical log, before independent practice
  • Wisconsin‑based nurses must complete didactic and clinical skills training before independent forensic nurse examiner practice
  • Knowledge and skills to provide age‑specific patient care
  • Clinical and technical knowledge in relevant specialty areas
  • Evidence‑based nursing interventions and nursing technology
  • Proficient computer skills, including Windows navigation, email, and electronic medical records
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make critical independent decisions, anticipate learning needs, and take preventive action
  • Time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to coach and develop employees
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a 150‑lb. sliding transfer with a second person
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
