About the Role
This posting is being used to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. The authorized level of these positions is Educational Assistant III, with applications accepted down to Educational Assistant I in the event of recruiting difficulties.
SalaryEducational Assistant I, SR‑10: $3,471.00 per month
Educational Assistant II, SR‑12: $3,748.00 per month
Educational Assistant III, SR‑14: $4,054.00 per month
Duties- Independently performs various academic, instruction‑related support activities, tutors students in a specified aspect of knowledge as directed by the teacher, and observes and reports on student progress and difficulties.
- Independently provides social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in a school and/or community setting to enable them to function as independently as possible. Observes and reports on student progress and difficulties and makes suggestions to modify techniques and tasks based on prior experience.
- Independently performs assigned counseling support activities. Develops rapport with students, encourages them to express their problems, observes and reports on student progress and difficulties, and carries out pre‑approved activities with students which promote a healthy self‑concept, develop social skills, and help provide early identification of special needs.
- Independently provides articulation reinforcement lessons and repetitive drills to correct or improve speech sounds as instructed and guided by the speech pathologist.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and one of the following: successful completion of a State‑approved examination (e.g., Para Pro or Para Pathways Assessment); at least 48 baccalaureate‑level semester credits with 3 credits in mathematics and 3 credits in English; or an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Educational Assistant I: 0 years general experience, 0 years specialized experience.
- Educational Assistant II: 1 year general experience, 0 years specialized experience.
- Educational Assistant III: 1 year general experience, 1 year specialized experience.
One (1) year of experience is defined as a school year, approximately 180 instructional days.
General experience includes paid or volunteer roles involving direct interaction with people and demonstrating the ability to observe, evaluate, and report on situations. Specialized experience refers to work providing academic, personal, social, vocational development, or behavioral services to students with disabilities in an educational setting.
Lift and Carry RequirementSome positions require the ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds unassisted and/or 100 pounds with assistance.
Substitutions Allowed- Child Development Associate credential or related program completion substitutes for one‑half a year of specialized experience.
- 15 baccalaureate‑level semester credits substitutes for up to one‑half a year of general experience, up to a maximum of one year.
- 15 baccalaureate‑level semester credits in Education or closely related field substitutes for up to one‑half a year of specialized experience, up to a maximum of two years.
- Associate degree substitutes for one year of general experience; an associate degree in Education substitutes for all general and specialized experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher substitutes for all general and specialized experience.
- High school graduates from a State school may substitute up to two years of specialized experience for completed TAP or LSP Level 4 courses or related credits.
- Excess specialized experience may be substituted for general experience.
Possession of the required number of years of experience alone does not establish qualification; experience must demonstrate the scope and responsibility necessary to perform the duties of the position.
