Part-time, for placement in lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Day, evening, or Saturday offerings, on- and off-campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct courses in Electrical Engineering under general supervision.
- Maintain office hours of at least one hour per week for each course taught.
- Prepare course outlines and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area under supervision of the division chairperson.
- Collect student and peer evaluations and complete a self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
- Complete instructional assignments which may involve day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach (such as Early College), and/or distance education classes.
- Work with students on engineering projects as specified in various grants and additional projects as needed.
- Perform assessment of course learning outcomes.
- Consult and work collaboratively with Kaua'i CC faculty, administrators, staff, and engineering faculty at the other University of Hawaii campuses.
- Adhere to community college principles and philosophy.
- Work effectively with a diverse student and community population in accordance with the Board of Regents Policy 4.207 III.F.1 and college practice of the open-admission concept.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualification may be considered on an exception basis.
Desirable Qualifications
- Ph.D. in any area of engineering.
- Five or more years of engineering experience in industry and/or higher education.
- Experience with programming languages in the C family.
- Knowledge of DC, AC, and digital circuits building, trouble shooting, and analysis.
- Proficient with engineering test and diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of sensors and applications.
- Successful community college teaching experience.
- Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of students' classroom learning activities.
