Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Residential Assistant on Kaua
ʻi to support adults living in community-based housing. This role provides hands‑on daily living support in a shared home environment focused on stability, safety, and recovery.
As a Residential Assistant, you will help residents build routines, strengthen independent living skills, and maintain a respectful, recovery‑oriented household. This position is ideal for dependable individuals who value teamwork and meaningful, person‑centered work.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)- Daily Living Support: Assist residents with meals, hygiene, communication, budgeting, and household routines.
- Safety & Crisis Response: Maintain a safe environment, respond calmly to emergencies, and complete incident documentation.
- Recovery-Oriented Support: Encourage resident goals using person‑centered, trauma‑informed practices.
- Program
Activities:
Support social, recreational, educational, and community‑based activities. - Household Operations: Assist with shopping, cleaning, organization, and basic upkeep of the home.
- Resident Supervision: Monitor resident well‑being and reinforce positive routines and expectations.
- Documentation: Complete timely progress notes and required reports according to policy.
- Team
Collaboration:
Work closely with supervisors, case managers, and team members to support resident stability.
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: Experience or coursework in behavioral health, human services, or supportive housing
- Skills: Reliability, compassion, strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and ability to work as part of a team
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and TB clearance (or willingness to obtain)
- Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in shared, community‑based housing with adults building independence and stability
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to work assigned schedules, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Work takes place in a residential, community-based setting
