What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
  • Conduct internal, concurrent, prospective, and retrospective coding audit activities and report findings
  • Develop and deliver training programs and educational materials to address deficiencies in coding and documentation
  • Validate coding systems and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Create and monitor inpatient case mix reports to identify trends and variations in coding
  • Review and interpret medical information to classify diagnoses and procedures accurately
What is Required (Qualifications):
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • AHIMA Credentials:
    Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • AAPC Credentials:
    Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hospital or physician coding and/or auditing
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Associate's Degree
  • 3 years of experience with claims processing and data management
  • Strong background in auditing and education/training in coding and reimbursement
