Its 18-bed emergency department serves as the island's Primary Stroke Center. The medical center also has four birthing suites, seven intensive care beds and 20 same-day surgery beds. Wilcox is the first American College of Surgeons-verified Level III Trauma Center in the state of Hawai'i. Wilcox is part of Hawai'i Pacific Health, one of the state's leading health care systems and a not-for-profit health care organization with medical centers, clinics, physicians and other caregivers working together to create a healthier Hawai'i.
The Mother Baby Care Unit at Wilcox offers specialized care for postpartum teen to adult women and normal newborns, as well as to post-GYN surgical women. Our highly trained and caring staff provides education to the entire family during and after the pregnancy, as well as IV therapy, fetal monitoring, diabetes education, monitoring of patients requiring bed rest for premature delivery, post-surgical C-section, regular deliveries and postpartum complications and a variety of other services.
The Mother Baby Care Unit provides support to mothers and their newborns in an atmosphere that promotes bonding of the family unit.
As the Lactation/Childbirth Educator, you will help new mothers understand and incorporate healthy lactation principles as they transit this momentous experience in their lives. Working in collaboration with the manager, you will provide educational programs for expectant parents regarding all aspects of pregnancy, child birth and infant care. You will also conduct breast feeding assessments and provide patients and community members with solutions to problems like insufficient weight gain, cleft palate and prematurity in infants and mastitis in nursing mothers;
as well as providing patients with up-to-date information regarding breast feeding. We are looking for someone with excellent communication and patient care skills, willingness to work in a team-oriented atmosphere and a commitment to our vision of delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai'i's people.

Minimum Qualifications:
Certification as a Lactation Educator from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience providing breastfeeding assessment, consultation, and information to new mothers; OR a bachelor's degree in Nursing and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA)/ASPO or prepared childbirth certificate within two (2) years of hire. Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card.
Three (3) years experience in providing breastfeeding education, counseling, or related experience. Valid driver's license and abstract. Current Hawai'i auto insurance.
