Dialysis Nurse, RN Nurse, Nephrology & Dialysis
Purpose & Scope
Acts as a Staff Registered Nurse within the hemodialysis health‑care team, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and delegate tasks to direct‑patient staff (LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians, Dialysis Assistants).
- Direct, monitor, and adjust chronic hemodialysis therapy, including sodium modeling, ultrafiltration, and adequacy monitoring programs (OLC, AMP, UKM).
- Provide patient and family education on ESRD, dialysis therapy, vascular access, laboratory values, medication, and fluid management.
- Initiate and document nursing assessments, and collaborate with physicians for medication and treatment adjustments.
- Supervise and monitor dialysis access care and troubleshoot flow issues.
- Ensure accurate documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets, medical information system, and physician lab orders.
- Manage laboratory requisitions, specimen packaging (DOT compliance), and communication of abnormal results.
- Lead continuous quality improvement activities, including monthly reporting and CQI documentation.
- Enforce safety, infection control, and emergency procedures, including CPR and incident response.
- Maintain drug inventory, vaccination records, and TB testing compliance.
- Collaborate with the clinical manager and other health‑care team members to coordinate patient care and staffing.
- Assist with coordination of patient transportation and prescription refills as needed.
Requires frequent lifting and moving of patients (up to 200lb.), prolonged standing, and repetitive bending. The work environment includes controlled temperature, moderate noise, and exposure to infectious materials.
Education & CredentialsGraduate of an accredited School of Nursing; current state licensure and compliance with state nursing practice requirements.
Experience & Skills- Minimum one year of medical‑surgical nursing experience.
- Hemodialysis and ICU experience preferred.
- Completion of hemodialysis theory and practice training, CPR certification, and Icd‑9 coding training.
- Technical training in nursing procedures.
- Ability to provide coverage at any facility as required.
Hourly rate: $42.00 – $60.00, based on location and qualifications.
