Performs various duties within micro markets and vending machines including, but not limited to, functionality and operation of machines, availability of products, money‑changing machines, payment kiosks, and ensuring maintenance upkeep of machines as required. Sells general merchandise to customers using professional selling techniques and provides service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. Operates a motor vehicle throughout the geographical area and on public roads in connection with job duties.
Responsibilities- Maintain Exchange‑owned machines and micro markets daily.
- Inspect and replenish products, ensuring proper assortment and adherence to shelf‑life dates, removing expired or spoiled items.
- Sanitize areas and keep food safe, ensuring no spoiled food remains.
- Greet and engage customers, provide sales assistance, and suggest additional items.
- Ensure assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise neatly arranged.
- Communicate with supervisors about stock additions, deletions, fast/slow selling merchandise, customer preferences, needs, and problems.
- Participate in department meetings and propose ideas for improvements in customer service and sales.
- Set up and maintain prices and Exchange‑branded visual programs in micro markets and machines.
- Maintain a current price list.
- Keep micro markets clean and orderly: sweep, mop floors, clean countertops, wipe down coolers, and empty trash cans.
- Reset merchandise annually to adhere to product adjacencies, branding, and placement standards.
- Operate laptop, tablet, scanner, handheld devices for inventory, receiving, and ordering.
- Assist in relocating and installing new machines; clean interiors/exteriors with appropriate solutions; adjust settings on dispensing units and coin changers.
- Collect money from vending machines and micro market kiosks on schedule.
- Accompany vending contractors to verify cash taken from vendor‑owned machines.
- Record service information using handheld devices; manually record counts; prepare vending machine cash collection slip SS 411.
- Clear coin jams and make refunds as required.
- Perform inventory control for micro markets, trucks, routes in vending and micro market systems.
- Collect turn‑in money bags daily from Cash Handling Clerks, count/verify cash receipt, prepare Daily Cash Receipt SS 120, and arrange deposit.
- Receive bills from Cash Handling Clerk and purchase coins from the cashier’s cage Navy Exchange.
- Interact with customers and coworkers professionally, adhere to NEX dress code, and assist vending team members.
- Gain knowledge of merchandise and communicate product information to customers.
- Operate motor vehicle throughout the geographical area, load/unload merchandise, and prepare daily trip reports.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedule (oil change, tune‑up, brakes), ensure fuel level, and retain receipts.
- Keep vehicle interior clean and return it to the designated parking area at the end of the day.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Regularly lifts and transports moderately heavy objects weighing up to 40 lb. Occasionally handles heavier items with assistance or material‑handling equipment. Requires regular walking, bending, and reaching. Work is performed both inside and outside, with exposure to bad weather and possible cuts or bruises.
Job Requirements- Must possess a valid state driver’s license or a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.
- Must be able to pass appropriate background checks needed for the specific area of responsibility (e.g., Federal DOD Security Clearance).
- Must pass the GSA defensive driving course.
One year progressive responsible clerical, office, or retail sales work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to interact with customers. OR substitution of education: half‑year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for each six months of general experience requirement.
Specialized ExperienceOne year of progressively responsible experience that provides the applicant with knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of retail, including retail sales services, vending store operations, and warehouse operations.
