Under the direction of the department head and/or manager, the Seafood Clerk provides customers with friendly and efficient service. The Seafood Clerk receives, cleans, prepares, packages, wraps, prices, displays and stores fish and other seafood products. The Clerk prepares all products for retail sales and assists with housekeeping, security and safety standards in the department.
Responsibilities- Provide friendly and courteous service to customers; maintain knowledge of seafood products; answer questions; obtain assistance if needed; guide customers to product location; offer serving suggestions.
- Receive, unload and check invoices for incoming fresh and frozen seafood merchandise; take daily and monthly inventory; assist with inventory; order back‑stock and supplies; make and document transfers to other stores.
- Cuts, wraps, prices and displays seafood products; fillet for poke; cut fish for fillets or steaks; pack shellfish, shrimp, imitation crab; head and gut large fish; scale and clean small fish; make various sushi.
- Ensure quality and freshness of products in the showcase; repack, rewrap and reprice items when needed; pull back‑dated products; post pricing signs and labels; execute price changes; check for price discrepancies and notify the Price Coordinator.
- Stay abreast of store specials and sales/marketing promotions; inform customers of promotional offerings; answer questions about specials; assist with promotional sales.
- Assist in department maintenance; ensure showcases meet company standards; clean showcases, equipment, wrapping and pricing stations; clean the cutting room; empty rubbish.
- Pursue professional development opportunities and contribute to corporate goals.
- Perform other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred; must read and write at a high‑school competency level. - Experience:
Customer service and/or fish cutting experience preferred. - Work Hours:
Availability for various days and shifts; overtime may be required. - Other Requirements:
Proven ability to converse in English one‑to‑one; read and comprehend department guidelines; write clearly; at least 18 years old; distinguish color of products; recognize, hear, acknowledge and converse with supervisor, co‑worker or customer at reasonable distance with corrective aids if needed; handle multiple tasks.
