Job Description

As a Law Enforcement Officer‑Armed Patrol Driver in Lihue, HI
, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as government. This part‑time security officer role offers flexibility and the opportunity to build a schedule that works for you. You will monitor and patrol assigned areas, remain visible to deter incidents, and support security‑related operations with professionalism and integrity.

Position Type: Part Time

Pay Rate: $28.86 per hour plus an hourly bonus of $3.58. Premium payment will be based on the position actually worked.

Job Schedule

Day Time – Wednesday 10:00 PM – 06:00 AM
Sunday 10:00 PM – 06:00 AM

Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Graduate of a Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program (or equivalent)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Law Enforcement Officer license
  • Age 22 or older
Formal Education, Licenses, And Certifications Required
  • Certified State law enforcement recruit training
  • Certified County law enforcement recruit training
  • Federal law enforcement training
  • Programs approved by the Director
  • Additional qualification:
    No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment, no documented truthfulness infractions in federal impeachment proceedings.
  • Knowledge And Skills Required
    • Ability to supervise contractors and work effectively with airport management, tenants, law enforcement agencies, and the public on security matters.
    Other Attributes That Would Enhance Hiring Consideration
    • No record of moral turpitude, domestic violence, untruthfulness, or mental or emotional disorders that may interfere with duty performance.
    Responsibilities
    • Provide customer service by carrying out security‑related procedures and site‑specific policies.
    • Respond to incidents and critical situations calmly and with problem‑solving skills.
    • Exercise sound judgement and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
    • Follow orders, accept responsibility for actions, and maintain professional conduct.
    • Remain alert and attentive, recognizing and responding to situations as needed.
    • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English.
    • Show courtesy in interactions with the public, airport employees, tenants, and law enforcement.
    • Provide court appearances for citations issued on behalf of DOTA, with replacement staffing as required.
    Physical Requirements And Environment
    • Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all duties.
    • In good physical health; capable of standing, walking, patrolling, climbing stairs, running, and performing self‑defense.
    • Perform essential physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs and assisting in safe evacuation.
    • Subjection to a random drug screen.
    • Ability to exercise physical force when required.
    • Pass security background check and one‑time physical examination within the past 6 months.
    • Pass a 12‑panel drug test and all future random drug testing.
    • Correctable vision to 20/30 per eye; normal color vision.
    • Normal hearing at conversational levels; hearing aid allowed.
    What You'll Do
    • Provide customer service to travelers, visitors, and staff through security procedures and emergency response.
    • Respond to incidents, disturbances, and critical situations calmly, professionally, and problem‑solving.
    • Conduct regular and random patrols throughout terminals, public areas, restricted areas, parking locations, and perimeter zones to deter unauthorized activity.
    • Monitor access points, credentialed areas, and sensitive locations, ensuring only authorized individuals enter designated spaces.
    • Prepare clear, timely reports on incidents, patrol activity, and observed conditions; communicate relevant information to supervisors and responding agencies.
    Minimum Requirements
    • At least 2 years experience in law enforcement, military police, or corrections.
    • Graduate of a law enforcement or military police training program or equivalent.
