Position: General Maintenance Specialist I

Job Description

Under limited supervision, independently performs general maintenance and repair work. Assists with various types of general maintenance work, including but not limited to, dismantling; installing; maintaining; and repairing.

Compensation

$29.56/hour (non-exempt)

This is a union position with 1 opening.

General Maintenance Lead and Facilities Manager

Responsibilities Essential Duties
  • Works from oral instructions, blueprints, written specifications, and/or sketches.
  • Repairs and maintains appliances. Replaces gaskets, seals, heating elements, thermostats, motors, and drive belts.
  • Performs interior carpentry finish work, such as drywall repair; installation of ceramic tile, paneling, and flooring; millwork; and trim installation.
  • Performs plumbing repairs, such as repairing leaking fixtures and pipes and replacing or repairing toilets.
  • Performs electrical repairs and installations, such as light fixtures; outlet receptacles; and light switches.
  • Prepares simple drawings/diagrams of work assigned.
  • Trains and/or assists with training employees.
  • May supervise the work of assigned employees.
  • Performs the job duties and functions of General Maintenance Specialist II and III.
  • Performs work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees, and with proper care and protection of Company property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be knowledgeable in County Building, Electrical, and Plumbing Codes.
  • Must have approved certifications for successful completion of basic carpentry, painting techniques, electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, and drywall repairs.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with people.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
Required Work Cards/Certifications
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
