Family Counselor II

Under the supervision of the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor, the Family Counselor II is responsible for the implementation of clinical therapeutic services; this position is responsible for linking the assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions with the purpose of achieving successful case outcome. This role is for 20 hours per week.
Education and Training Requirements- Masters' Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Requires knowledge of an advanced type
- Other:
One to four years of post-master's experience - At least one year of full-time, clinically supervised progressive work experience inclusive of residency, internships or practicum in the care of treatment of youth in a mental health or educational setting.
- Over two years, up to and including four years.
- Experience in working with parents/caretakers who harmed their children or threatened their children with harm and children who experienced harm or were threatened with harm and who experienced trauma and loss.
- Experience in working with domestic violence, substance abuse, and permanency issues.
- Preferred Experience:
Direct use of a variety of therapeutic skills (i.e. solution focused, CBT, DBT) family therapies, individual therapy with children and adults, marital therapy, group therapy, therapeutic interventions targeting school behavior and academic performance, implementation of interventions within or between systems in the participant's natural ecology that affect or influence the behavior of youth (i.e. family, peer, school, and neighborhood) - Dynamics of sexual assault
- Dynamics of domestic violence and intimate partner violence
- Impact of substance abuse and its treatment
- Impact of child abuse and neglect on development
- Trauma informed care
- Family systems theory and application
- Social ecological theory and application
- Effective therapies theory and application

- Demonstrated ability in experience and education in relevant aspects of clinical practice

- Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse social, economic, ethnic/racial, and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with at-risk families
- Commitment to family centered, community-based services
- Commitment to children's safety and family stability
- Good verbal and written communication skills in therapeutic assessment, interviewing and recording
- Valid driver's license

Position Requirements
- This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license and a clear driver's abstract and continued employment may be contingent on maintaining a clear driver's abstract.

- This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of convictions
- Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPI classes OR other Behavioral Management certification as may be contract-mandated.
- Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPR, First Aid, AED classes.
